Centennial Museum

The Jewel of the Island
Often described as a 'jewel' of a museum, the Centennial Museum of Sheguiandah is situated on Highway 6 in Sheguiandah, Ontario, on beautiful Manitoulin Island.
Nestled behind a rail fence just south of Lewis Creek, our eight-acre site features a main exhibition area and six outbuildings. Our museum preserves a large collection of settler artifacts from the mid-1800's onward that help tell the stories of our ancestors and local heritage.

A History of History
Originally built in 1967, the museum was Canada's first completed Centennial Project and was built through the combined efforts of local, provincial and federal government initiatives following the suggestion by the Sheguiandah Women's Institute that a museum was needed in this area.

Discover your Heritage
When you visit the Museum, you can share in the early life of our settlers from the mid-1800’s onward and learn of their life styles through our exciting displays of both home and work. We are also proud to have a display of artifacts from the Sheguiandah Archaeology Site that tells a story of life 9,500 years ago.

A Must See...
Come spend the day, enjoy a picnic lunch in our tranquil park setting, or if you're feeling adventurous, why not try a hike on our nearby Lewis Twin Peaks Trail or walk through our historic walking tour of the village. No matter what you choose, make sure you put the Centennial Museum on your "must see' list.

Plan to attend the museum's Annual Roast Beef Dinner always held the last Sunday in June. The museum also hosts a variety of workshops, lecture series, art exhibits and children's programs and activities throughout the season.

New to the Museum...
Bring the family to enjoy the great playground equipment newly installed at the Centennial Muesum of Sheguiandah!! Thanks to the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the museum was able to purchase awesome new playground equipment for the communities enjoyment! The Centennial Museum of Sheguiandah and the Town of NEMI would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support!
